SPIE 1996 Conference on Optical Interconnects in Broadband Switching Architectures To be held at: SPIE Photonics West '96 January 27-February 2, 1996 San Jose, California (probable conference length: 2 days) The telecom and datacom industries are experiencing revolutionary changes at an ever-increasing pace. These changes are creating a demand for broadband switching architectures with very high aggregate throughputs. The objective of this conference is to bring together system architects and researchers from both the photonics arena and the electronics arena to share ideas on the merging of these two technologies to create the high-performance switching architectures that will be needed in the future. Prospective authors are invited to submit original papers for presentation at the conference and for publication in the conference proceedings. Topics of interest include: 1) opto-electronic technologies, 2) optical interconnections between various levels of the switch interconnection hierarchy, 3) photonic system prototypes and products, and 4) photonic architectures that can be applied in broadband switching networks. Systems based on both free-space digital optics technologies (bulk optics, micro-channel, etc.) and guided-wave optics technologies (wavelength division multiplexing, directional couplers, soliton logic, etc.) will be presented. Typical applications include: -photonic architectures and switching fabrics (performance analyses) -broadband ATM and/or STM systems & networks employing optics -optical rings, LANs, MANs, and WANs -optical clock distribution for high-speed systems -inter-system & long-haul optical signal transport -optical buses & high-speed optical data links -OEIC building blocks for photonic switches -smart pixels and associated VLSI designs -packaging issues for optical sub-systems -reliability issues within large broadband optical networks Optical Interconnects in Broadband Switching Architectures Submission of Abstracts: Abstract Due Date: 3 July, 1995.
